Interview - PSYOPUS

Martín: Hi There! Introduce PSYOPUS to our readers and tell us about your new album “Odd Senses”.

Arpmandude: Well, my name is Arpmandude and I play guitar for the band Psyopus. Psyopus is comes out of Rochester, New York and presently consists of Hason Bauers on drums, Brent lover on bass and Brian Woodruff as the vocalist. We have just released a new album entitled “Odd Senses” on Metal Blade Records. It’s a grind-core-art-fags dream come true.

M: How can we call your music: Grind, Math Metal, Experimental... Jazz from Hell?

A: I once heard the term avante grind/mathcore. I think that certainly says it best.

M: Your music is as brutal as technical. How is the process to create that kind of music?

A: The material comes about in many different ways. I do spend a lot of time wondering around in my mind figuring things out and I suppose this key be one of the key ingredients to what we do. But, we like it ugly, fast, unyielding.

M: Where do you find the inspiration to create a new song?

A: It just kind of happens. Sometimes it’s a mood. Sometimes in a number of ideas that just seem to work together. Sometimes it’s an evolution of one idea into a complete piece of music. Variety in the creative process is important to keeping the ideas fresh.

M: Do you see Extreme Metal as somethig possitive or a complete madness?

A: It is what it is when it is just that.



M: Many extreme bands are making videos for its songs. Are you planning to make a video for one of your songs?

A: we have made a video for “The Burning Halo”. It’s live shots of one of our shows. It’s pretty cool. I also am talking to a friend about doing a video for the song “Duct Tape Smile.” We will see if it ever comes to be.

M: How do you feel being part of a label such as Metal Blade?

A: I feel super good about it. It makes me think that the band has resources to be seen and experienced in a great many ways. I am happy to have the opportunity.

M: What can we expect about PSYOPUS´s live on stage?

A: Energy. And the more energy the crowd gives us, the more energy we have to harness and give right back.

M: How do you see Extreme Metal scene in the USA today?

A: It is what it is. There’s a lot of players out there upping their skills which is making for some interesting music. We just kind of do our own thing and wish to see others do as well.
